Indonesia Expands Immigration Services with Two New Bali Offices
The Directorate General of Immigration in Indonesia has officially announced the establishment of two additional immigration offices in Bali. This strategic expansion aims to bolster the surveillance of international visitors within the province and enhance immigration services for both local residents and foreign nationals.
These newly opened branches are strategically situated in Tabanan and Klungkung, regions that have been experiencing a growing influx of foreign nationals, drawn by their burgeoning appeal as both tourist hotspots and emerging business centers.
Spotlight on Tabanan and Klungkung’s Growing Appeal
Tabanan Regency is celebrated for its iconic tourism destinations, including the revered Tanah Lot Temple and the breathtaking Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Klungkung Regency, on the other hand, is renowned for housing the historic Kertha Gosa complex, and notably, the popular Nusa Islands (Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan) also fall under its administrative jurisdiction, further underscoring its significance in Bali’s tourism landscape.
Addressing Increased Demand for Immigration Services
Yuldi Yusman, currently serving as the Acting Director General of Immigration, addressed the press regarding these new openings. He emphasized that the decision to establish offices in Tabanan and Klungkung was a direct response to the escalating demand for immigration services in these areas. Yusman articulated, “Regions identified as having significant immigration service needs can now be better accommodated,” highlighting the proactive approach to better serve the public.
Locations and Classifications of the New Offices
The new immigration office in Tabanan is conveniently located at Jalan Arjuna 2, Delod Peken, directly behind the Tabanan District Head Office. Meanwhile, the Klungkung Immigration Office can be found on Jalan Semarapura. Both facilities are classified as Class III Immigration Offices. This classification indicates that while their service scope may be more focused compared to larger offices, they are fully equipped to handle essential immigration needs.
Comprehensive Services at Class III Immigration Offices
Despite their Class III designation, these new offices are capable of supporting most of the requirements of an average foreign national residing or visiting Bali. Their services include facilitating visa and stay permit extensions, providing essential reporting and registration services, and acting as operational bases from which immigration officers can conduct monitoring and oversight activities.
Relieving Pressure on Existing Facilities
The inauguration of these new immigration offices represents a significant step towards alleviating the strain on existing, busier facilities such as the Denpasar Immigration Office and the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, which currently manage the majority of immigration affairs for foreign nationals in Bali. The Singaraja Immigration Office continues to serve residents in the Buleleng, Jembrana, and Karangasem areas. Importantly, Indonesian citizens residing in Tabanan and Klungkung can now conveniently access a range of immigration services, including passport renewal, at these new local offices.
Recent Changes in Indonesia’s Immigration Policies
Over the past year, Indonesia’s immigration system has undergone substantial revisions, particularly concerning visa extensions. Travelers planning a trip to Bali or other parts of Indonesia are strongly advised to consult official updates from Indonesian Immigration in the weeks leading up to their departure to ensure they are aware of the latest regulations.
Understanding the e-VOA for Tourists
For most tourists and holidaymakers visiting Bali, the Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) remains the most appropriate visa option. The e-VOA provides a 30-day stay initially and is renewable for an additional 30 days. The extension process can be initiated after arriving in Indonesia but must be completed before the expiration of the initial 30-day period. This extension is facilitated through the Hybrid-Application System.
- Cost: The e-VOA is priced at IDR 500,000.
- Permitted Activities: It covers a broad range of tourism and leisure activities.
- Limited Business Activities: A very specific set of business-related activities are also permitted, such as attending meetings, events, and exhibitions, as well as purchasing goods and conducting site visits.
- On-Arrival Application: The standard Visa on Arrival can also be obtained in person upon arrival at any of Indonesia’s international airports, including Ngurah Rai International Airport.
C1 Tourism Visa for Extended Stays
Individuals planning a longer stay in Indonesia for leisure, family visits, or extended travel should generally consider the C1 Tourism Visa. This visa allows for an initial stay of 60 days and offers the possibility of extensions for a total duration of up to 180 days.
It is crucial for all visitors to Indonesia to understand that they bear personal responsibility for securing the correct visa that aligns with their intended purpose of visit. Misinformation or incorrect visa applications can lead to complications upon arrival or during their stay.
Increased Immigration Task Force Presence
Tourists in Bali may notice a more visible presence of Immigration Task Force Officers conducting patrols across popular destinations. These patrols are being deployed in key areas such as Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, Ubud, and Nusa Dua to enhance oversight and ensure compliance with immigration laws.
Officers are carrying out spot checks on tourists, where they may inquire about the traveler’s intended length of stay and the reason for their visit. Should a tourist be approached by an officer, they may be requested to present their visa and passport for inspection. Cooperation with these officers is essential to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit to the island.
